Status
This promise is in progress. In January 2022, the Scottish Government announced £16m of funding to local authorities over the next two financial years to support the continuation of “rapid rehousing” programmes including Housing First. In February 2022, the administration reported that over 1,000 people had been offered Housing First tenancy.
“Extra £16 million to tackle homelessness” (Scottish Government, 4th January 2022)
“More than 1,000 Housing First tenancies” (Scottish Government, 26th February 2022)
Other pledges
The SNP also pledged to create a statutory duty for public bodies to prevent homelessness and introduce a national programme to increase housing choices for people facing homelessness. All of these initiatives are part of a wider pledge to “aim” to end homelessness and rough sleeping.
