Aim to increase the amount of organic produce used in public sector food procurement

Last updated 3 years ago

We will… double the amount of organic produce that comes from Scotland, with a focus on more of it being used in public sector food procurement…

SNP Manifesto 2021, p.104

Our verdict

Status

This promise is in progress. In October 2021, the Scottish Government announced that it was reopening the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme (AECS) to “support the ambition of doubling the amount of land under organic management”. The administration committed to offer further rounds of the scheme until 2024. This scheme is explicitly related to what the government says is “a wider campaign to prioritise local and organic produce in public sector menus”.

Other pledges

The SNP also promised to double both the amount of land used for organic farming and the amount of organic produce grown in Scotland.
