Aim to end homelessness and rough sleeping
Last updated 3 years ago
SNP Manifesto 2021, p.51Our aim is that everyone should have a warm and safe place to live. That is why ending homelessness and rough sleeping is a national priority for us...

Status
This promise is in progress. In 2021 and 2022 the Scottish Government introduced a range of initiatives to combat homelessness, several of which are related to other SNP campaign pledges (see below). These include additional funding and a plan to impose a legal duty to prevent homelessness on public bodies. The status of this pledge is difficult to assess since the SNP framed this as an “aim” and a “priority” but did not explicitly state that they hoped to achieve this during the parliamentary term.
“Preventing homelessness” (Scottish Government, 19th December 2021)
“Extra £16 million to tackle homelessness” (Scottish Government, 4th January 2022)
Other pledges
The SNP also pledged to provide £50m in extra funding for homelessness prevention over the course of this parliament, create a statutory duty for public bodies to prevent homelessness and introduce a national programme to increase housing choices for people facing homelessness.
